Dear Piano Teacher

tick tock tick tock
just hearing your metronome
made me anxious beyond belief
tick tock tick tock

ABCDEFG ABCDEFG
practicing scales on a Sunday afternoon
was equivalent to torture
ABCDEFG ABCDEFG

tick tock tick tock
i would hide in your bathroom for twenty minutes
to escape sitting with you
tick tock tick tock

ABCDEFG ABCDEFG
your apartment smelled like old lady
and your breath smelled like old socks
ABCDEFG ABCDEFG

tick tock tick tock
to this day i can't play a note
and i wouldn't want too, anyway
tick tock tick tock

ABCDEFG ABCDEFG
because when i see pianos
I think of those thirty minutes each week
with you

The writing prompt for today from Poetic Asides was to write about a relationship you had with somebody from your past.  I guess I needed to let the ten year old oppositional Templeton out today.

What torture! I always wished I had taken piano lessons but maybe it's just as well. This will stick with me!

My heart aches for this terrible music experience. Especially the bad breath part. :)

But seriously, this poem makes me want to go back in time and rescue the child from this, show a better way, a better teacher.

TG my daughter's piano teacher is so nice, efficient. And odor-free.

My sister endured a similar fate. For some odd reason, I could play by ear.

Wonderful poem.

Boy your poem sure brought back memories of my days and piano lessons. Mrs. Luther was her name. Did the woman not know how to smile?!

Found your blog via the A-Z challenge. Following You! Come on over and say "hi".

Well, I'm an old lady---bit thankful at the moment that I don't give piano lessons---airing out the house today for sure though:) Seriously, nicely done ---oops, I mean well written.

Hehehe I had the ticking of the metronome in my ears the whole time. Luckily I liked the steady rhythm it created.
